Duck seeks to unseat Republican Congresswoman Michele Bachmann

MINNEAPOLIS - The campaign of Democratic candidate for Congress, Quackers the Duck, received a boost today with an endorsement from the Minnesota Democratic Farm-Labor Party. A statement from the DFL says, "Being a duck, Quackers has a close affiliation with the rural constituency of our party. Endorsing Quackers affirms our oft stated belief that Michele Bachmann is so out of step with mainstream Minnesotans that even a duck could beat her."

Early polling has shown that Quackers and Bachmann are in a dead heat for the 2010 election. The DFL endorsement comes on the heels of an endorsement by Ducks Unlimited, a hunting group. The Ducks Unlimited endorsement stated, "We love ducks. An unlimited love for ducks. We would love to have a duck in Washington to help offset all the turkeys currently serving." A spokesperson for Ducks Unlimited did note some concern by the organization over their endorsement. "We are worried that in flying around to campaign, one of our members might accidentally shoot Quackers. There's probably some law about shooting candidates for Congress."

Bachmann has been a top target of Democrats since her comments in 2008 calling for an investigation of members of Congress to find out whether they are pro-American or anti-American. The Minnesota Congresswoman has made other controversial statements, including her unwillingness to participate in the 2010 Census and her claim that the government program AmeriCorps (a community service organization) is really a re-education camp for young people.

At a recent debate between the Incumbent Bachmann and challenger Quackers, Bachmann touted her legislative record, saying she was proud to have introduced the Freedom of Light Bulb Choice bill. The bill would stop current plans to phase out energy wasting incandescent bulbs. Bachmann stated, "Forcing people to buy longer lasting, more energy efficient light bulbs is reminiscent of Hitler or Stalin, whoever was the most socialist between the two."

Bachmann also derided her opponent at the debate saying that running against a duck was beneath her. "All Quackers is good for," said the Congresswoman, " is being served on Christmas Day with orange sauce." Quackers responded to his feathers being ruffled by saying, "Quack, quack, quack . . . quack . . . quack, quack," to the loud of applause of the audience.

Political analysts believe Quackers has a real chance of unseating Bachmann, but are worried his plans to migrate South for the winter will hurt his fundraising and campaigning. However, one long time observer of Minnesota politics noted, "Any Minnesotan who can afford to leave this frozen tundra during the winter heads South, so Quackers may be able to campaign just as well in Florida."
